AuraList back to the app

FAQs

What is AuraList?

A place to keep your school tasks, import your Canvas assignments, and plan your day with AI. Each person has their own private account.

Replay the tutorial for a quick guided tour of the tabs, Canvas import, and the planner.

How do I get an account?

Accounts are invite-only. An admin adds your email; you then get a temporary password (by email, or from the admin) and choose your own the first time you log in.

I forgot my password.

Use "Forgot password?" on the login page to get a reset link by email. If that is not set up, ask your admin to reset it for you.

How do I import my Canvas assignments?

First connect Canvas in Settings (see the token steps below). Then open the Canvas tab and choose "Fetch assignments" (or "Fetch incl. past due"). Pick the ones you want and which list they go in, and import. Assignments you have already submitted or imported are hidden automatically.

How do I create a Canvas API token?

This lets AuraList read your own courses and assignments. It never changes anything in Canvas.

  1. Log in to Canvas in a web browser.
  2. Click Account (your picture, top-left), then Settings.
  3. Scroll to Approved Integrations and click + New Access Token.
  4. For Purpose type something like "AuraList". You can leave the expiry blank so it does not expire.
  5. Click Generate Token.
  6. Copy the token that appears now - Canvas only shows it once.
  7. In AuraList go to Settings → Canvas, paste your Canvas web address (e.g. yourschool.instructure.com) and the token, and save.

You can delete the token in Canvas any time from that same Approved Integrations list.

How do I create an AI key for the planner?

The planner and chat use an AI provider. You can use your own key, or your admin may share one with you (then you can skip this). AuraList supports two providers - pick whichever you have.

OpenAI (ChatGPT)

  1. Go to platform.openai.com and sign in (this is the developer platform, separate from chatgpt.com).
  2. Open API keys (under your account menu, or platform.openai.com/api-keys).
  3. Click Create new secret key, give it a name like "AuraList", and create it.
  4. Copy the key (starts with sk-) right away - it is shown once.
  5. Using the API needs a small amount of credit on the OpenAI account (Billing → add a payment method). A month of normal use costs a few cents.
  6. In AuraList: Settings → AI, choose OpenAI, paste the key, save. Leave Model blank for the default.

Google Gemini

  1. Go to aistudio.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
  2. Click Get API key (top of the page or aistudio.google.com/apikey).
  3. Click Create API key and copy it.
  4. In AuraList: Settings → AI, choose Gemini, paste the key, save. Leave Model blank for the default.

Your key is encrypted in the database and only used to generate your own plans. It is never shown to other users.

How does "Plan my day" work?

It reads your open tasks, due dates, any Canvas assignment descriptions, and today's calendar events, then suggests time estimates and a schedule for the rest of today. The chat below it can adjust things ("work 1.1 into tonight", "mark the essay done") - changes need one click to confirm.

How do I connect my Google Calendar?

In Google Calendar: Settings → your calendar → Integrate calendar → Secret address in iCal format. Copy that link and paste it into AuraList Settings → Your day. The planner then schedules around your events. Anyone with that secret link can read your calendar, so keep it private.

How does sharing work?

Share a whole list or a single task with someone by typing their email. Shared lists are live - everyone can add, edit, and check off tasks. Only the owner can delete or change who it is shared with; recipients can leave any time.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your tasks and settings are visible only to you (and anyone you explicitly share with). Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, and your Canvas token and AI keys are encrypted. See the Privacy page for details.

Can I change the app's name or theme?

Yes, per person, in Settings → Appearance - light, dark, or match your system, plus a custom name that shows in the header and browser tab.
